156.Police Officer's power to investigate cognisable case

(1)Any officer^ⓘ-in-charge of a police^ⓘ station may, without the order of a Magistrate, investigate^ⓘ any cognisable^ⓘ case^ⓘ which a Court having jurisdiction over the local area within the limits of such station would have power^ⓘ to inquire into or try under the provisions of Chapter XIII. (2)No proceeding of a police^ⓘ officer^ⓘ in any such case^ⓘ shall at any stage be called in question on the ground that the case^ⓘ was one which such officer^ⓘ was not empower^ⓘed under this section to investigate^ⓘ. (3)Any Magistrate empower^ⓘed under section 190 may order such an investigation as above mentioned.
